Manual Therapy in Duluth

Manual Therapy in Duluth

More doctors and physical therapists are incorporating manual therapy techniques into their treatments plans. These approaches can reduce pain levels for individuals while improving quality of life.

The American Physical Therapy Association defines manual therapy as “skilled hand movements and skilled passive movements of joints and soft tissue.” This hands-on approach to physical therapy allows practitioners to move tight, swollen or restricted body parts. It can improve range of motion, increase joint mobility, decrease pain and reduce inflammation.

Certifications

Manual therapy, also known as ‘hands-on’ therapy, is an effective and safe way to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. It is not meant to be painful but rather promote healing and increase mobility without the use of potentially hazardous medications.

Manual therapy utilizes ‘hands-on’ techniques to mobilize joints, muscle, connective tissue and nerves in order to enhance movement and function. These non-invasive procedures have been proven effective at relieving pain and discomfort for patients of all ages and fitness levels – with minimal risk to the patient.

Certified Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapist (COMT): This national credential recognizes those who have successfully completed an intensive training program combining hands-on practice and didactic instruction. Graduates who successfully complete this one to two year advanced manual therapy training program will be awarded this certification.
